Sneak Peek — McKenna

“You’re the first time I’ve wondered if it’s possible to be infatuated and in love with someone at the same time. Except my infatuation isn’t short-lived. It isn’t foolish. It’s simply intense. Fucking impassible.”

“Maybe you aren’t sure of them just yet.” I challenged him when I shouldn’t have. Scoffing, he backed away from me and brushed his hand down his face. “Jason, I’m just making sure you…”

“I know what you’re doing,” he interjected. “You can kill that shit now.” I loved when he cupped my face. So much so that I grabbed his hand to perform the gesture for him. The scowl I’d put on his face was everything, but his smile was even better. Just as quickly as I made it vanish, I made it come back into play with an apology.

“Be patient with your guest,” I teased.

“No. I’ve been patient for ten years. Stop playing with me.”

Wrapped in his arms, I sighed when a phone call on his behalf interrupted our bliss. I was beginning to hate sharing any of his time. Selfishly, I didn’t care who it was. Whether business or personal, this was my time to have him. My time to enjoy his touch and the way love rolled off his tongue whenever he spoke to me. If this was what I’d bypassed and cluelessly ignored for years, did I even deserve it now that I had it? The doubt in the back of my mind diminished quickly. Jason had to have loved me all along. He was every bit of patient with me, attentive to my body, and willing to prove himself every step of the way. I owed him so much more than I could ever give.

“You already know to make yourself at home,” his baritone rumbled next to my ear before he kissed my cheek. “I have a few things to take care of, but I’ll be here. Alright?”

“As long as you’re here.” Patting my butt, he jogged to his phone to answer it and started speaking in business lingo that I hardly understood.

Jason owned a music collection that was out of this world. Whatever you could think of, and for whatever mood you were in, a music lover like me could remain completely consumed for hours to enjoy it. Amongst all other things to busy myself and tamper with in his decked-out bachelor pad, I only wanted him. Wishing to pick his brain more while wrapped in his arms, I contemplated throwing a fit to get my way. A decision to behave until he’d gotten enough of work and found his way back to me settled me down. Instead of watching him work and listen to him speak codes that came out as a lot of gibberish to me, I finished cleaning every inch of the kitchen to shower and trail around his haven wearing one of his T-shirts and a pair of soft, cotton, lace underwear that I anticipated him ripping off of me.

At the sound of his doorbell, he immediately looked to me with a threatening glare when I inched toward it half-naked.

“You better not.” He covered the speaker of the phone and spat through gritted teeth. Staring at my exposed thighs, he tossed me the blanket that was folded neatly on the edge of the couch and motioned me to wrap it around my waist. Giggling as I unlocked the bolts and chain, the wind was nearly knocked out of me when I answered the door.

“Can I help you?” I questioned rudely. The woman standing before me damn sure wasn’t a sibling, because he didn’t have any of those. I’d met a few of his cousins over time, and she didn’t look like she could be a part of the family either. Hell, his family didn’t even live close, and they wouldn’t visit without a heads up. As far as I was concerned, he didn’t have female friends besides me, or outside of business, and she was dressed too casually to be here on a business tip. I was automatically annoyed, shocked at myself too. I’d never really felt jealous of another woman when it pertained Jason. This was a first.

“No, you can’t. I’m looking for Jason.” She rolled her neck, and I wished it would’ve rolled down the driveway so that I could’ve closed the door and moved along like she’d never interrupted my smile by ringing the doorbell.

“You’re looking at him.” Since it felt like we were synchronized more times than none, I’d begun to consider us one. Nonetheless, she wouldn’t be seeing Jason today. I would have to suffice.

I looked her up and down, bothered by her image. Everything about her screamed bold from the long blonde extensions in her hair to the hoop piercings in her eyebrow and bottom lip. I couldn’t help but think she would be much more beautiful without them. Matching my height, she differed in all other areas with light skin and a petite frame that I started a diet every other week to achieve.

“Girl.” She tried laughing me off, as if that could actually work or sway me from blocking the entrance. When her laughter subsided, I was still there, standing before her with a clear refusal to let her talk to him. I blamed him for the newfound emotions I couldn’t control. Yup, he’d turned me into a possessive being, just like him. “Who the hell are you?” She asked and folded her arms across her chest.

Sneak Peek — McKenna

“Who is it!” I shouted, annoyed with how easily distracted I could become. Shamefully, I’d been welcoming all diversions to salvage me from the bore document I was revising.

“Whoever you want me to be for the night.” Jason’s deep baritone aired from the other side of the door. “I’m him.” Without abashment, I quickly acknowledged that I’d been using him. Jason was a close friend who’d recently become more in sexual ways that caused me to lose my breath, mind, and sanity. He was attentive to my body, and my body alone. Feelings were never discussed between us, because they were invalid. To avoid confusion, they just weren’t allowed, and I’d honestly begun to like it that way. It saved me from enduring an arduous ending.

Yanking the door open with a sly smile, I surveyed him up and down. Jason’s butter-pecan skin harbored a remarkable tan today. His black optics were intimidating, but he’d ruled my body beautifully so many times that I’d grown accustomed to them.

“Didn’t I tell you not to come over tonight? I have a lot of work to do.” I rolled my eyes. Jason could tell I was fronting. Laughing, he showcased his perfect set of glistening white teeth. Looking down at his sides, I noticed he wasn’t empty-handed. Two bottles of wine and a large, brown carry-out bag from my favorite Chinese spot accompanied him.

“I think you said something like that, but your soft tone called me daddy and begged me to head on over. You inviting me in or not?” Pretending that I was dissatisfied, I stepped aside for him to enter and blushed behind his back. Jason and I could never be anything serious. He was somewhat of an egotistical man, whom last time I checked, threatened women’s edges by stressing them out with mind games. He loved that I didn’t question his moves, and I was comfortable with our connection to focus solely on what we meant to each other at the moment. Good sex.

After I secured the locks on my front door, I followed him into the kitchen. “If you would’ve actually called before you came, you would’ve known that I already ate,” I said, barely above a whisper. Jason seemed to be satisfied to hear that as he approached me slowly and licked his lips at the sight of me.

“Good. I have business to tend to soon, and I’m only interested in eating you.” Jason was disgusting, charming, and indubitably handsome. He was the epitome of how I liked my men, despite his negligence to commit to anyone.

Moaning as he kissed my neck, I prayed for forgiveness from above right before he’d weakened my knees and taken me down to the cold, tile floor. I always giggled because his careful touch tickled. Once he hiked the oversized T-shirt I wore to my waist to enter me, it became a different story. Jason muffled my loud moans of pleasure with passionate kisses that would’ve made me believe he was madly in love with me if I didn’t know any better. Pulling his shirt from his back, I replaced it by digging my nails into him. Jason fulfilled my heart’s emptiness, even if it only lasted for a moment. He was the only man I’d been with after experiencing Derrick and his bullshit. He was a fling that was deemed close enough to the real thing. Jason’s kisses always commenced with a fistful of my hair. I didn’t think I liked anything rough until I experienced him sexually. There wasn’t anything gentle about him. As I became familiar with that fact about him, I began to love it.
