SYNOPSIS

Life and the results of bad decisions has thrown Ashahve Glasper a curve ball. She’s pregnant and doesn’t know which man has fathered it. There’s Dr. Elijah Coleman, her professor with whom she’s had an on again off again affair with and Omari Watson, the love of her life, but also the one who hurt her the most. Depression is threatening to take her down, because it seems she’s in this thing alone until God shines a little light on her. While having company through the process makes it easier to deal with, the fact still remains that she doesn’t know which man is the father of her child. While Omari is the man she wants to be the father, she also knows that Elijah would be a good father. The paternity results will reveal who the father is, but will Ashahve be able to handle the results?

Finally in a good place in life, Omari Watson knows what he wants… what he needs. Ashahve Glasper is at the top of that list. While they had an extremely difficult break-up, he accepts responsibility for it and wants to make amends. He feels that he can now be the man she needs now that he’s gotten his anger issues in check. Therapy has also taught him how to emotionally express himself as well. He knows he can be a great man to her, but will she give him a second chance?

Elijah Coleman just wants to know when life will treat him like his is worth living. From one issue to the next, he struggles to get past them. However, his tenacity won’t allow him to give up and wallow in regret. With his career and reputation on the line, Elijah does his best to get through the ordeal. While all of these problems stem from his involvement with his student, Ashahve Glasper, he still wants to be in her life, especially since he knows she could possibly be having his baby.

These three lives once again intertwine. A pregnancy could connect two of them forever, but which two? Ashahve is a nervous wreck, begging God to let one of them in particular be the father. They all know of the possibilities and they are prepared to deal with the outcomes, but can they hold it together until those results are bestowed upon them? Will the results be favorable for all parties involved?

SNEAK PEEK

“What do you wanna eat?” Before I could answer, he said, “Hold on.”

When he went to the prenatal bag, I already knew what he was looking for. He was gonna drive me insane if he limited my food. I loved to eat before the pregnancy, and nothing had changed. “Okay. What’chu want?” he asked while looking at the list of foods I couldn’t have.

“I want some crab cakes.”

I watched his eyes scan the list with a slight frown on his face. “You can’t have that, shawty.”

“What?”

He laughed loudly. “I’m just kidding, baby girl. You looked like you wanted to fuck somebody up a minute ago.”

“Keep on playing and you gon’ be that somebody.”

Omari laughed harder as he put the paper back in the folder he’d gotten it from. Coming to the couch, he sat next to me and I slapped his arm. That didn’t deter what he had in mind though. He pulled me to him and kissed my lips, then began massaging my scalp. That shit felt so good, I wanted to go to sleep right then. I’d closed my eyes, but quickly opened them again when I felt his lips on my neck.

I scooted away from him a little bit. We hadn’t had sex in a while and I wasn’t trying to go there now. He stared at me, then licked his lips. “Shavi… please? It’s been a couple of months. I’ll be gentle. My baby’s baking in there.” He brought my hand to his lips, then scooted closer to me. “Please, baby?”

He again kissed my neck, turning me on more every time his lips touched me. “I need you, Shavi.”

Omari’s hand was inching up my leg as he kissed my shoulder. The slight moan that escaped me only gave him a green light. He gripped my thigh and I finally said, “We can’t, Omari.”

“Why not? You don’t want me to help your body relax?” he asked between kisses. “I don’t care if it turns out the baby isn’t mine. I won’t regret this moment.”

I closed my eyes. Trying to resist him was pure torture and he knew it. Before I could even war with myself any longer, he’d laid me back on the couch and his fingers had bypassed my underwear. When he slid them inside of me, I felt like I’d climaxed already. I hissed and he stopped, looking up at me. “You okay?”

I bit my bottom lip and nodded my head. Omari’s fingers continued their quest to bring me unspeakable joy as he lifted my leg and kissed from my toes to the back of my knee. Stroking my g-spot was starting to take its toll, because I was squirming and trembling, preparing the way for my orgasm. The moment he realized how close I was, he removed his fingers, then pulled off my underwear. He quickly disrobed, then gently pushed his anaconda inside of me.

SNEAK PEEK

“You asked for me to love you for the weekend and that’s what I plan to do sweetheart. Mind, soul, spirit…” he paused to bite down on his bottom lip, “And body.”

“I just have one request,” I said with my eyes closed hoping I wouldn’t regret what I was going to say.

“Anything for you.”

“No penetration.” As badly as I wanted him, it just wouldn’t be right. Silus and I were on a break, but we weren’t broken up. Then there was this connection I felt with Mac. I couldn’t deny it, nor did I want to. It scared me so the possibility of tying myself to him wouldn’t have helped us part ways when it was time to. He gave me a sense of freedom and I wasn’t going to throw that away. Even if it was until Monday morning, I was going to enjoy everything that he had to offer.

“As long as that doesn’t include my tongue or fingers, we have a deal sweetheart.”

Before I could protest, he slipped one of his fingers in between my folds and found the source of my wetness. He used his thumb to rub the most sensitive part of my body while using his finger to guide himself inside of me. I closed my eyes as he took my body on a journey to ecstasy. The music in the background faded. The sound of his finger entering my warm canal and being met with my nectar were the only sound that I was able to hear. The sweet smell of whisky mixed with mint from his warm breath invaded my nose as I felt his lips all over my face. Mac’s kisses were so gentle, so sweet, so loving. The complete opposite of how his fingers were punishing me for thinking I could limit myself to them. The honey from my comb drizzled over his finger as his fingers worked overtime to take me to my peak. I saw mountains, I saw clouds, and then I saw he and I together as one.

“Come back to me sweetheart.” His deep voice brought me back into the bar, in his lap, and the music returned once I was able to come down from my high.

SYNOPSIS

One Fire.

Their Fate.

Reckless, stubborn, and guarded. Those three words might as well be Harlow Knox’s first, middle, and last name. It’s who he’s been at the surface, and down to his core since the building burned down that he and his groupmates, that are more like brothers, lived in. When the woman whose existence seemed to stem from that fire returned to their lives, a fated domino effect ensued that Harlow thought he’d have a choice in when it came for him.

Siarrah “Ari” Lewis is a woman who can put up a hell of a fight for the lives of people she’s never even known when those scrubs of hers are on. Caring for others is all she really knows and that’s how it’s always been. It’s ingrained in her, but it developed at the cost of her losing herself, piece by piece. Tragedy after tragedy.

When fate threatens to shake Harlow so hard it may prove to be his downfall, Siarrah finds herself not only on the outskirts but connected to it all. Fate holds no time restraints, nor does it leave a voicemail if you aren’t ready to receive it. Find out what happens when these two lives are bonded by fate’s call, it just might change it all.

SNEAK PEEK

“I’ve had to rethink damn near everything since she’s been around. Phoenix’s whole spirit is like a domino effect or something.”

“A domino effect?” Siarrah asked with a raise of a brow.

“Yeah, when it comes to shit like this between us. I can say all day that I don’t want you, but I do. That I just want to kick it with you, but that wouldn’t be the truth. That I’m not tryna think with my dick but that nigga wants you too. I want your pretty ass on some whole new shit.”

Siarrah blushed, resting her head on my shoulder as she covered her eyes. The simple gesture of her getting more comfortable with me made me lose my whole train of thought. “Those gray eyes, Harlow. You can’t look at me like that while I’m laying in your arms and feeling that monster rise beside me.”

I chuckled at Siarrah, just slow profiling her from head to toe as she kept her eyes covered. She wasn’t leaving a nigga lonely tonight and she just didn’t know it yet. I needed to have a moment with her, and we could get back to the serious shit. She was too close to me, for me not to have permission to touch her the ways I wanted to, and I needed to change that.

I thought about everything she’d said the last time I gave in to temptation but couldn’t make myself adhere to any of it. I sucked her plump bottom lip and felt her immediately relax fully into me as she moved her hand to palm my cheek and fluidly take my tongue into her mouth. That was all the permission I needed to indulge in her.

She’d changed my stance on kissing, after the first time. My lips had been missing hers since the moment they disconnected. Being reunited with them had my dick throbbing and my hands palming and gripping her thighs, hips, waist, and breasts, blessing my ears with her first moan.

“Harlow, wait.”

Pulling back, I let her know, “I’m not going to fuck you, Siarrah. That’s a promise.”

“You will if I ask you to, and that’s what I’m afraid of.”

“You’re afraid to touch me now, Siarrah?”

“I’ve never touched you in a situation like this. It’s sending off all types of reminders that how close we are becoming is a conflict of interest.”

“You sure that’s what’s happening right now?”

Harlow’s grey eyes struck me, and I felt stripped for a moment. I squinted my eyes in complete confusion regarding where the hell my mental defenses had just went. He wet his lips with his pink tongue and ran his hands down my arms until my hands were in his.

As he took a step even closer to me, I remained defenseless. I was so enraptured by his gaze that I felt my chin intuitively lift to accommodate this lucid connection. This moment between us was different than any other we’d shared. He’d almost always respect my wishes even if I could tell he was analyzing me, knowing my words weren’t aligning with my actions. He never truly called my bluff, but I felt him silently screaming it at me now.

He was weeding out my truth from my opinion and I was caught. At his mercy. Spellbound. Tongue glued to the roof my mouth. That was the only defense mechanism that seemed to be a functioning part of my self-preservation system.

Since the moment he’d made those juicy lips glisten I wanted to feel them. To taste them. I was slipping, falling for him quickly and I wasn’t sure how to prevent it from happening. I took a step backward and he stepped forward at the same time as if we were in sync. I felt the door against my back, without a clue as to how it had become almost closed. There was no escaping this moment with him.

“You can touch me. Remember…”

SAMPLE

The moment she sat on my lap, the sweetest moan fled from her lips and traveled to my ears. Just like that, my goal went from conquering her lips to seeing how many moans I could pull from her by the end of our night together. Her soft round ass planted on my hard rod caused my heartrate to increase again. I was so damn close to releasing a moan of my own when she started moving rhythmically back and forward. Then Chrissi began moving her waist in a circular motion and again, she forced me into practicing self-control. I grabbed both her thighs signaling for her to stop.

Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and released it. “Don’t do that sweetheart.”

“Why? You can’t handle it?” she asked, her voice laced with desire.

“No, I can’t.” That was the truth. If she was going to tease me the way she was, she had to understand that I would want more. To have her on top of me grinding while making eye contact was too much for me to handle. She went to get up, but I grabbed her waist so that she wouldn’t be able to. I was finally able to open my eyes only to be met with her closed ones.

“You said you can’t handle this, and I need this,” she confessed.

“Tell me exactly what you need, and I’ll do everything within my power to give it to you sweetheart.”

“I’d be asking too much of someone I didn’t know.”

“I’m your husband,” I corrected her. She smiled, gifting me my first glance of peace in human form. Whatever she was envisioning, she was at peace which led a calmness to sweep over me.

“I’m only in town for the weekend.”

SAMPLE

I sat on the swing next to my love and kissed her lips. She kissed me back, then said, “Tomorrow, I’m gon’ kick that bitch in her mouth.”

“Yooo! Naw, shawty. I don’t even know who you talkin’ ‘bout, but you ain’t kicking nobody in the mouth with my baby in your belly.” She wouldn’t even look at me. I roughly grabbed her chin to get her attention. “Now who the fuck done pissed my baby off? Let me handle that shit, ‘cause you ain’t doing shit to risk your health or the baby’s health.”

Even though we still didn’t know if I was the dad or not, I repeatedly called it my baby. I was speaking that thang into existence, because I didn’t know how I would handle it if it wasn’t my baby.

“That stupid bitch that keep putting her nose in my business.”

I closed my eyes. She had to be talking about Mali. My anger was rising. I was tired of her antics too. “What happened, baby?” I asked in a low deep voice.

“She’s the one that told Nyera about me and Elijah. I’m sick of her meddling in my fucking business. How in the fuck she know about that?”

“I don’t know how she know, but don’t worry, baby. I got’chu. She wanna be childish and shit, I’m finna step down to her level.”

“What are you gonna do? You can’t put your hands on a woman, Omari.”

“I’m not gon’ physically touch her but what I’m gon’ do, gon’ knock the fuck out of her ass. But somebody feeding her information.”

I saw her eyes search for answers, as were mine. She turned to me and I took the opportunity to kiss her lips again as my hand slid up her thigh. “I love you, girl. I always got yo’ back.”

She leaned against me and I draped my arm around her. After kissing her forehead, I said, “How you feeling? I hate that this shit is stressing you out.”

I rubbed her belly, trying to calm her down. “I’m okay, baby. I got a lil short-winded when I was talking to Nyera, but I’m okay.”

“It sounds like you having anxiety attacks, baby. That’s not good for your blood pressure or the baby.” I nuzzled my nose in her neck and inhaled her scent. “Come stay with us tonight,” I said low in her ear.

She giggled, then said, “Omari! I don’t live there!”

“But you ‘bout to though,” I said as my phone vibrated in my pocket.

When I looked at it, I sat straight up. I couldn’t speak for a minute. I had an email from the DNA facility. “Baby, what’s wrong?”

I turned my phone to her, and I could see her anxiety kick up. “Calm down, shawty. I’m gonna open it and see what it says. You just be thinking about where you want to go for dinner.”

SAMPLE

“Oh my God! You scared the shit outta me. Why are you here?” she yelled when she got her bearings.

“What did you expect? You blocked my number after sending that damn text. I had to talk to you…to see you so that I could explain.”

“You had plenty of time to explain. I don’t wanna hear shit you gotta say. Now can you let me go and leave!”

They were sitting in the middle of her bed and she tried to get up and out of his grasp but it didn’t work.

“Let me go, Raffiel,” she said calmly.

“I’m not letting you go until you promise to hear me out and not swing on me.”

They sat there, in the dark, for a few minutes and neither of them spoke. Nia was trying to decide if she wanted to hear him out and Raffiel was praying that she would.

“Fine. I’ll hear you out but I don’t want you touching me. Now let me go!” she demanded again.

Raffiel unwillingly released her and she jumped off the bed to turn on the light. Immediate confusion covered her face when her eyes landed on him.

“Why are you undressed?” she asked him, trying not to take notice of how good he looked in his black wife beater and boxer briefs.

“Because you don’t like outside clothes on your bed,” he replied simply.

She shook her head that he even thought about that at a time like this. “Talk.”

“C’mere.” He patted the bed next to where he was seated.

“I’m good over here.”

She folded her arms across her chest which pushed her breasts up making them more noticeable. Raffiel’s eyes went directly to her nipples which you could see through the thin white tank top that she was wearing. His eyes traveled down to the exposed skin between the bottom of her tank top and the top of the boy shorts that she was wearing then froze on the gap between her mound.

He licked his lips as his mind flashbacked to the last time he tasted her, which wasn’t even twenty-four hours ago. His dick got hard with the memory.

“I like your hair,” he commented.

It was his first time seeing her without braids and with her natural hair. The silk headwrap she normally wore had come off during their struggle and her wild hair fell to the middle of her back.

“Are you gonna talk or not?” Nia replied impatiently, ignoring his compliment.

“I need you close. C’mere,” he repeated. “Please,” he pleaded when she didn’t move.

“Raffiel, I don’t want to do this with you. I’m weak for you and if I come over there, you’re going to use your magical powers to convince me to believe whatever bullshit you’re about to say. I’m good right here. Now explain…please.”

He took a deep breath before he began. “Victoria is not my girlfriend but she is…”

She had me under a spell still. I wonder if she knew. That was a question I wanted the answer to. The closer I was to her table, the more my mouth grew dry and my heart pounded against my chest. Stopping a few feet short from her table, her friend from the park looked up at me and smirked. With a nudge to the arm, she got Sisi’s attention.

“Be nice,” her friend grunted through her teeth.

At this point I lost the entire speech I went over before arriving here. “Ladies, how are y’all doing?”

“Good now,” the friend to her left grunted looking me up and down like a piece of meat. The friend to her left shot the other a warned glare.

“He ain’t here for you. He’s here for Sisi. Ain’t that right, Sisi?”

Sisi’s eyes met mine and I grunted, involuntarily. Low enough that she couldn’t hear it but loud enough to jolt me into some sense. “Sisi.”

A tiny smirk crossed her lips and her brow rose. “Sisi?”

“I remembered your friend called you that in the park. Would you mind if I talked to you for a minute?”

“She won’t mind at all. And I’m Jasmine, that’s GeeGee,” the friend from the park spoke up. “Go, go. You two enjoy yourselves.”

Jasmine and GeeGee practically picked Sisi up out her chair and handed her over to me. “He won’t do nothing to you, we’re right here watching his fine ass.”

“GeeGee,” Jasmine groaned warningly. “Mind your manners girl.”

Sisi looked over her shoulder and squinted at her friends. “I can assure you I won’t bite. I just want a do-over.”

Turning to fully face me she looked me up and down and smirked. “I’m going to entertain you because I’m feeling good. So spit your game.”

I chuckled and rolled my lips against one another and nodded my head towards an empty booth. She laughed at me. She laughed and then shook her head no. “I want to dance. So we’re going to dance. Can you dance?”

Her boldness shocked me. But I should have known from how she handled me the first time I stepped to her. “Can I dance? Girl…come on.”

I took her by the hand and led her to the dance floor. Feeling her soft hand clutch firmly around mine felt like electricity. It was coursing its way from my body and it wouldn’t let me go. The second we got to the dance floor she started to sway to the beat of the music.

“So what’s your name?” I asked in her ear as she hummed to the music. She let me step in her space and I gladly took the opportunity.

“Hasina, but as you know already my friends call me Sisi. Your name might be important to know…”

“Jamie,” I responded as she smirked, turned around, and rocked her hips against me. As much as I was enjoying this moment I wanted to talk to her. I appreciated her ass on me but I was a mental man. I wanted to pick her brain.

I let her dance, wind, and grind her hips against me a couple of times before tightening my hand on her waist and pressing my lips against her ear. “I want to talk to you. Let’s get out of here.”

I spun her around to face me and she gave me what I assumed to be her signature look which was a raised brow and pursed lips. “Just to talk?”

“Just to talk.”

Pam was chattier than usual. The few times I had seen her on campus we exchanged pleasantries, but this was different. “Wow, you’ve got a lot in there. It’s only going to be the two of us at my house. Well he hasn’t said yes yet, but if he does it’ll be two of us.  Daddy isn’t coming home for this one. He, this guy, he can’t cook so whatever I make will be great.” She laughed then paused as if she had a revelation. “Never thought your mom started so late.”

“Of course not. This is all me. Late and ashamed.”

“Mrs. Lawrence is letting you cook this year? I never thought she’d let you do anything. No offense, though.”

My cheeks heated with childlike embarrassment. Then I recalled the tender love Marshall and I had been making for the past few weeks. How every touch begged for my heart, his apologies for what I had already forgiven creeping into our morning kisses, our stolen glances. Gentler, more endearing, we had both resumed our parts in our picturesque romance. “None taken. Actually, I moved out. You remember Marshall?”

Pam’s cheeks flushed. She twisted her head then scratched at her chin. “Oh, that’s right. You did meet Marshall at my party.”

“Right. But I never called him then. Wasn’t sure what might’ve been going on between the two of you. Anyway, I ran into him back in February and girl we’ve been inseparable ever since.”

Still scratching. I thought she might bleed soon. “Is that so? Look at that.” She paused. “Life is full of surprises. And you guys are living together already? Look at you, Dana. All grown up I see.”

I knew it was a slight, but I didn’t care. Jealousy was for those who were scorned. Not women like me who had the adoration of the man of their fantasies. Marshall unlocked pockets of my body I didn’t know could quiver. He said words that travelled up my spine, settling in my certainty. Perhaps this was what she hoped for and I, the unlikeliest of competitors had emerged as victor.

Leaving Pam at the opposing bus stop, I beamed on my way home. Once I made it to my block, I saw Marshall leaned out of the window. He waved and then came running down to the lobby to assist with getting my cart of groceries up the stairs. “You were gone a long time. I almost came to look for you.”

“Oh, it was crowded. Much more than I expected. And I chatted a little with Pam.”

He stumbled over the back wheel of the cart. It took him a few seconds to defeat the cart from sliding back down the last flight of stairs, but he managed well. “It’s been a while since you’ve seen her, no?”

“Well actually, I’ve seen her a few times recently. I didn’t tell you she’s been attending school at the same college, now? I thought I did. Well anyway, it wasn’t important. I must’ve forgot.” I waited for Marshall to let me in the apartment.

Inside, a gust of wind blew the door shut behind me.

“I can help whoever is next,” The clerk announced as I rushed to the desk with my bags.

“I need a ticket,” I rushed out as her eyes connected to my own. Dark eyes peering at my clothes and bags, but I ignored the stares. “Doesn’t matter where to. Could be to Kansas for all I care. I just need to get out of here, tonight.”

“All of our flights are booked.”

“Look,” my eyes scanned her airport uniform for some badge or name tag. “Reese, I need this. I have money and I’m more than willing to pay whatever ridiculous high fee as long as I’m on the next flight out before morning hits.”

Reese stared at me with boredom dancing in her eyes, before the same dismissive tone slipped from her brown, big lips.

“As I have stated before all of our flights are booked. If it is meant for you to leave you can try again tomorrow.” Her eyes turned to slits before looking behind me. “I can help whoever is next in line.”

“You can fly with me, beautiful.” The silky voice behind me interjected. He was now beside me. I looked at him as if he was crazy enough to buy a complete stranger a ticket.

“What?” Reese and I asked in unison, both equally surprised at his gesture.

“I couldn’t help but to hear the conversation. You sound as if you need to leave and I’m feeling more than generous to make that happen. You’re in luck. I always purchase the seat beside me to avoid sharing a long flight sitting beside anyone, but for you, I will make an exception.” He smiled before turning to Reese. “Can you get her the ticket in the seat beside me?”

“Are you-” She started to say before closing her mouth and placing them on the computer in front of her. “Sure thing.”

I didn’t even bother asking or thinking about what she might have wanted to ask. Nor, did I care much about Goldie or my brothers warning me not to accept anything from a man outside of them.

“Men always have ulterior motives, baby girl. Don’t let these niggas sweet talk you out of your panties. Or, purchase anything for you. As soon as you say no to sex, they won’t hesitate to mention what all they bought or have done for you. You let your husband do that, but even don’t depend on that nigga. We’re raising you not to go out like that,” Giovanni schooled.

Yet, I saw no issue with agreeing to take the extra ticket offered by a stranger. As I peeked over at the pale man, I didn’t take him as shady. If anything, he was kind. My brothers would have been livid if they saw me now.

“Looks are always deceiving. The most good-looking nigga could be the devil in disguise. Take Goldie for example. He knows he looks good, we all know it too, ‘cause we’re products of him. Women flock to him, our mama was no different, and now look at her. Pay attention to who a nigga really is, not what he looks like.” Silas sniffed as he pushed his glasses up on his slim nose.

Ten minutes later I had a first-class ticket waiting to board a flight to New York and was following after the stranger to gate C8. I watched as his bright blue eyes focused more on the latest iPhone in his hands. He was slightly taller than I was, but not by much. Whereas I stood at 5’8, he was only 5’10. Pale complexion slightly tanned and sticking out in a fitted gray Armani suit, designer black loafers on his feet, a silver Michael Kors watch covered in diamonds graced his wrist along with three encrusted diamond rings covered his left hand, and his blonde hair was slicked back into a ponytail. I thought about what Toni would say if she saw him.

“Oh, he got money, sissy, probably a trust fund baby. He’s fine for a vanilla bean though, but you gotta be careful with white boys.”

I smiled thinking about my favorite sister, but quickly pushed her in the back of my mind. Clearing my throat and pinching the bridge of my nose to keep the tears from falling again, I shifted my focus towards the man in front of me.

“How much was the ticket? I can pay you back.” I broke the silence as I reached for my bag to retrieve my wallet but paused when he opened his mouth.

“No need, it’s fine.”

“You’re usually nice to every girl you meet at the airport?” He shook his head no as a smirk danced on his thin lips. “Then why exactly are you being so generous and nice to someone you don’t even know? First class tickets to New York sounds hella expensive if you ask me.”

“I could hear the need to leave in your voice and I see the potential in young girls like you.” He smiled, except this one reached his eyes.  “Michael.” He extended his hand out for me to shake, which I reluctantly took.

I wasn’t sure what he meant by seeing potential and didn’t care to ask. Instead I chucked it up as him being friendly and gave a smile, before releasing my hand from his loose grip.

“Thuy.”

“Interesting name.” He said as his eyes finally met mine again. “So, Thuy, what are your plans for New York?”

“To be honest, I have no clue. I’m really just figuring it out as I go and decided to leave as a spur of the moment thing.”

“Well, if you plan on staying for good, you’ll need somewhere to stay. The city is expensive and without a plan you’ll burn through whatever money you have in no time. If you need somewhere to stay until you land on your feet or figure your plan out, I can offer some assistance.” He offered as I threw him a sideways look causing his head to fly back and laugh. “I swear I’m not a creep. It’s just that my friend Shannon has been looking for a roommate to help out with rent. Her apartment is too big for just her, and so are the bills. She’s accustomed to a certain lifestyle and can’t afford it on her own.”

“I’m really trying not to live with someone I don’t even know, but if I choose to, I’ll let you know.” I lied because I had no intention of living with one of his friends or keeping up with Michael outside of this flight.

“Okay.” He smiled.

Taj Adams

Taj shook her head at the thought of Maria’s mother. There wasn’t much to say or be desired of that woman. Practically every man in town had had her and she let it be known. Taj felt for Maria. No eighteen-year-old should have to give up their lives to raise her mother’s children. She wanted more for Maria and she was sure that Maria wanted the same.

Replying back, I’ll be over later, Taj saw Bubba’s car pull up to the curb.

Pulling the passenger door open, Taj pulled the lever to the front seat and threw everything in the back seat. “About time you showed up.”

“Don’t start talking your shit, Baby,” Bubba chuckled a bit as Taj situated herself in the front seat and slipped her feet out her flip flops and propped them on the dash. “You always got to put your corn chips on my dash.”

“Bubba,” Taj exhaled and rolled her eyes. “You act like we’re riding around in a Mercedes or something.”

“Girl,” he kissed his teeth as he pulled off from the curb. “Where is Maria?”

“You already know where she is…I’m going to bring her some food.”

Bubba kissed his teeth again and looked at his baby sister. “Baby…”

“What?”

“Who is paying for this food for the African village Maria got? Hm? My pockets look deep to you?”

Taj looked around Bubba’s Honda Civic and smirked as she looked at him. “Not at all.”

Bubba’s laughter rumbled from his belly. He reached over and gently grabbed her shoulder and shook it lightly. “Baby, one day you’ll be riding in my Mercedes and I will remind you of all this shit you were talking about my Honda Civic.”

“Selling dope is going to put you into a Mercedes?” Taj questioned with a raised brow.

Bubba scratched his beard and shrugged his shoulders. This wasn’t how he saw his life when he got accepted into Duke. He saw his life as an all American and playing college ball with the goal of playing for the NFL, the Carolina Panthers to be exact. But one bad decision led to another and ended up with him being kicked out of Duke and back at home with Taj and Senior.

“Selling dope keeps the lights on and the mortgage paid. Senior can’t do all this shit alone,” he spoke up. Taj looked up at Bubba and her ears perked up.

When Bubba spoke, they normally did. She clung to his every word. It was a privilege he had with her. He had never let her down so she put her trust into him completely. “I don’t want to sell this shit but it’s fast money. Niggas don’t try me because of how big a nigga is, and it keeps you fresh and you got everything you need. Shit, how I see it, you don’t got to really want for nothing because between Senior and me you set.”

“Yeah, but you still need to be careful. These new niggas are different,” Taj mumbled. After losing her mother her greatest fear was to lose Bubba or Senior. She never wanted to feel that type of pain again. Hell, she still carried the pain of her mother dying in her spirit. She hid it well though. Buried it far enough away so no one would question if she were hurting or not. A bad habit she picked up from Senior.

Bubba laughed lightly and nodded his head. “Bottom line, Baby, I’m making it home. You think I’m going to leave you stuck with Senior?”

“I would hope not,” Taj forced a smile. “I want more for you, though.”

SNEAK PEEK

“I don’t mind waiting a bit longer. As long as I can continue to enjoy my wife.” He said softly while kissing on my chest, neck and face. Jax has massive lips, they devoured me from head to toe. They were the perfect mix between moist and soft. Not slithering at all. The first time Jax and I made out I came. Hard! In my panties. It was so strong I was ready to run away from him had he not held on to my body tightly to comfort my trembling body.

“Alexa play grind with me by Pretty Ricky.” Jax’s smooth baritone demanded. A chime later Pretty Ricky song flowed through the speakers. Jax twirled me around and had me sitting on his lap with my back to him. He pulled my head back by my hair and whispered in my ear.

“Dance for me.” A shiver ran down my spine as I formulated a plan to blow his mind. This was my element, I loved dancing. I choreographed often, in the shower, at work, in the kitchen. Anywhere there was music my imagination took me places with different moves that I pieced together when I got to my studio.

Hyped up by the light tap on my ass I began to rotate my hips on Jax. He did his best to keep his hands on me as I moved swiftly from sitting on his lap to the floor in front of him. I went down into a split and bounced up and down to the falsetto of Pleasure Ps slow wine lyric. Moving from the split to all fours I turned to face Jax and did a series of moves that allowed me to pop my ass, touch my breast and climb up his legs. I placed myself into a handstand and did just as instructed by Pretty Ricky. I grounded my pussy into Jax’s face as he held onto my hips to keep me steady. Jax was a great dance partner because he always knew when assistance was needed. As I had my pussy directly in his face I felt his light facial stubble on my thighs, his soft breathing near my center and his slithering tongue on my mound. There was one thing about my husband that I learned fairly quickly and that was that he was a freak not to be mistaken with kinky. Jax wasn’t into all the extra kinky things like whips and chains but he loved sex. He loved pussy and he loved fucking. He loved on every single inch of me and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Lowering my legs to his shoulders I lifted from my midsection with help from Jax and held onto his head as he proceeded to devour my flower. The song repeated as Jax began to claw at my body. He stood with me on his face and carried me to the bedroom. There he gently placed me on the bed and pulled every article of clothing off me.

The moment I was naked and open to him he returned to my center and licked me until I came, hard. I really had no control over my orgasms anymore since Jax and I began to make love. Before him, I was able to get myself to completion and knew how long it would take and when it was coming. With Jax, I was always surprised by the ways he was able to catapult me to ecstasy. I enjoyed the ascent to the clouds. Jax let me ride out my orgasm without further stimulation. It’s like he knew I couldn’t handle anymore in that moment.

I started to feel light blowing at first and then opened my eyes to find Jax hovering over me with a satisfied smirk on his lips.

Mesmerized by the moment I crashed my face into his and bite his lips. I heard a satisfying moan escape Jax throat before he aligned his member and entered me slowly. Missionary was very intimate between Jax and I, we never rushed to get out of the position.

Jax moved slowly and deeply in this position and the connection we shared was truly outside of this world.

Another orgasm rocked through me and I squeezed my eyes shut. I was seeing stars. I’ve never felt this sensation before Jax and I guess that means I never experienced an eruption at this level with any man. Reaching your peak alone is a totally different experience from this sensation. As I laid there trying to get myself together I felt soft breaths on my face. I peeled my eyes open to find Jax looking into my face.

Indigo “Indie” Sims

Indigo’s heart beat against his chest while he pressed his hands against the trunk of the car. Ricky stared into the space around them with his jaws clenched so tight that his teeth might’ve broken. The anxiety between them was high and their senses were heightened.

Indie saw his life flash before his eyes. Bullets buzzed, tires screeched against the pavement and everyone got in their cars and fled from the scene. He couldn’t even make sense of why it even happened. One minute, Ricky was exchanging words with a nigga from a different part of the hood and then bullets were buzzing. Ricky emptied a clip. Ricky’s thoughtless move made Indie do the same.

Once his breathing settled, Indie looked over at Ricky and growled lowly. “What the fuck was you thinkin’ nigga!”

“Indie don’t fuckin’ start,” Ricky huffed breaking out of his daze and digging in his pocket for a blunt. “That nigga was talkin’ shit like he wanted smoke. So, I gave it to him. Fuck you mean? Ain’t a nigga ever going to come for me.”

Indie twisted his face at Ricky’s rationalizing and sucked his teeth, “Nigga…you think we need any more heat on us?”

“Nah, nigga,” Ricky shook his head and placed the blunt between his lips. “You got heat on you. I’m good.”

Indigo’s eyes twitched with agitation before he lunged forward to push Ricky in the chest. Ricky stumbled backward and grunted. Indie’s nostrils flared and his light skin burned red. “Nigga you got the same blue flag hanging out your pocket just like I do! That’s heat off top. You don’t think these crooked ass cops ain’t lookin’ for a fuckin’ reason to put us in a damn cage? You might like the county, but I am never goin’ back to that shit.”

Ricky chuckled. “Calm your ass down, Indie.”

“Nah, you need to get a hold of your damn self. Some shit ain’t worth goin’ to war over. And that shit is one of them.”

“Everything is worth goin’ to war for…you knew that when you got down with the set.”

Prologue

My long legs power walked through the busy airport LAX as I ignored other patrons staring at me with wide eyes and agape mouths. I’m sure it had to do with me looking exactly how I felt, a hot mess. My big, thick, afro was wild and bouncing with each stride I made, my lips dry and chapped, dark skin ashy from crying, and clothes stained with blood. Her blood. I was on a short time frame and didn’t bother to change. Each time I tried closing my eyes all I could see was her lying there on the floor in a pool of her own blood. Tonight, on my mind, like a constant replay. My phone chanted the latest Drake single in the pocket of my PINK sweatshirt before I silenced it. They had realized that I was gone, but what they didn’t know was that I wouldn’t be returning. How could I? I was tired of feeling the pain that resided within that house and with her dead, I saw no reason to. Seventeen and a half years had passed for me to leave just like my older sisters had done, but compared to them, my time was much later. The constant vibration in my pocket redirected my attention as I jumped into the least longest line of the crowded airport. My home screen covered in missed calls and texts.

Gio: Where you at baby girl? This isn’t the way you leave.

I bit back the tears as a smile grazed my face. Giovanni was much older beyond his twenty-five years. Only because he had spent years raising me as if I was own, forcing him to grow up more than most.

Goldie: We’ll get through this together as a family. I’m here for you. All of you.

Goldie texting me made the sarcastic chuckle release from my lips. For as long as I could remember he had never been there. Always had been too selfish to care or be there for anyone other than himself. His actions and decades of neglect were the reason we had lost her. Goldie was to blame for how screwed up we all were. He was the man, the father, and the sole reason why we all were familiar with pain.

Goldie: Be here in 30 mins or I will cut everything off. You can’t go anywhere without money and you don’t have any without me. Where else can you go? You’re still a minor and a Campbell.

Toni: Boo, please tell me where you’re at. I’m worried sick, sis. You don’t have to run off. You know you can move in with me. Or, do campus living for all the college options you have if that’s not what you want to do.

Toni: Can you at least answer my calls? Please?

Gia: Quit making everything about you. Just get home. NOW!

Gang Banging Lloyd: Aye, you sister, G said you were missing. If you need I can slide through and get you. Drop the addy and I got you. No questions asked.

My Fav Haitian: Pick up the phone. I’m about to pull up. Drop the pin.

My Fav Haitian : Toni called me crying looking for you. I know what happened, but you got me if you don’t want to come home. I been told you that. Drop the pin, ma.

I placed my phone on airplane mode before sliding it back in my pocket. A lump formed in my throat, but I was tired of crying. Tired of hurting. Tired of feeling. As bad as I didn’t want to leave the people I loved the most, this was something I needed to do for myself. This was my chance to be selfish for once and gain happiness.

SYNOPSIS

From the moment Dana Lawrence caught glimpse of Marshall Davenport’s intoxicating smile, she was smitten. A cool guy, Marshall was in command of his space. His essence persistently tugged at Dana’s heart and even when she was sure she had put the idea of Marshall behind her, there he was calling her name. Foregoing her intuition, mother’s advice, and philandering suspicions, Dana dives into the murky sea of Marshall’s love. Even better, his anxiousness to be swept up in her currents. Together they are empowered to be free of refinement, tangled in passion, boldly dismissing objections. However, when the winds change and the dust begins to settle, passion can easily become pain with the wave of a hand.

SAMPLE

As if he were the man of the house, he emerged from the swarm and reached for my hand. “Pleasure to meet you.”

Eyes so intoxicatingly dark, I stumbled, though I hadn’t moved. His skin, browner than mine, begged me to touch, but I was too rattled to respond. He had to have a good five years on us. His goatee was clean. His swagger too easy. Not quite a full-on afro, his hair was auburn and thick, sideburns shaped with precision. His cigarette poked from behind his ear. I watched him as I held my breath, bottled around the rim of my stomach.

“Really Marshall? Can you be less obvious? Gazing into her eyes right in front of me?” Pam sighed. “Let’s not create more drama. It was only seconds ago that we agreed.”

But I too was entranced, my eyes refusing to look away.

Pam tugged at my arm, guiding me into the action. Someone called her name, waving her over to the kitchen card table. “Oh, I got next. Listen, have a seat or not. Make yourself at home. Maybe try to have a good time.”

I found an open spot on the burgundy loveseat. Nothing in the house was just red. Anything resembling the color, the base of the table lamp, the frame around the oversized mirror facing the fireplace, the psychedelic swirls throughout the wallpaper, all exotic shades of red. Either Pamela’s father was a fan of hearts, or blood, or he fancied himself a lady’s man as my mother had often said, red was a seducer’s color.

My fear had dissipated. To be left alone was a relief as it would leave me to observe Marshall. He floated through conversations, blessing each interaction with his smile and candor. Mingling amongst the graduates as though it was him who called the party into attendance. Every move of his limbs beckoning my attention.

“This seat taken?”

SAMPLE

Hasina Payton

The space between us was closed, his hands molded themselves to my waist. “I think you lived your entire life planning everything out and being strategic about every move you make that this seems like it’s too good to be true. You should let that go for a while and see how everything turns out for you.”

“I did that once,” I admitted placing my hands on his chest. “And my heart was broken. I don’t know you and I am sure this cloud I’m floating on is going to drift away.”

He kissed me. Probably to get me and my doubts to halt for a minute. “I don’t waste my time on things that hold no value to me. I don’t waste my time playing either. That’s what little boys do and I am grown ass man, Hasina. I want to know everything about you. I want to fill that emptiness, color in your lines. So let me…I won’t let you down.”

There hadn’t been a man in years that had the nerve to step to me like this. Not with his shit together. Not one who wasn’t hollering about what I brought to the table and what I could do for him. Jamie’s attention was on me.
